While we wait for concrete news about GTA 6, a lively controversy is brewing surrounding a controversial decision by Rockstar Games.
GTA 6 has definitely attracted a lot of attention lately. A priori still only expected for PS5 and Xbox Series in 2025, contrary to a recently debunked “leak” regarding an internal postponement to 2026, it is however the subject of a controversy that is unfortunately much more concrete. In addition to offering a more advanced sandbox gangster experience than ever before, GTA 6 also intends, like its predecessors, to offer a colossal soundtrack made up of hundreds of songs from a wide variety of genres. This is precisely Rockstar Games’ proposal to a corporation that seems to have been generating a lot of excitement lately.
GTA 6 pays the price for Rockstar Games’ controversial decisions
To respect the tradition of offering a soundtrack as extensive and varied as the previous Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games has already made proposals to various artists in order to obtain authorization to incorporate the fruits of their labor into GTA 6. Martyn Ware, member of Heaven 17 , a British synth-pop group from the 80s, is one of them. The studio reportedly sent him an email asking for permission to include Temptation in its next game.
As compensation for including his band’s song in GTA 6, Ware reportedly received an offer to which he responded with a loud “Fuck you.” More specifically, here is the message the artist shared via his personal account on X.com. ” Recently I was contacted by my publishers on behalf of Rockstar Games regarding the possibility of using Temptation in GTA 6. Of course excited by the huge sum of money I would receive, I followed up the email to the end… We were talking about 7,500 DOLLARS. For the redemption of all future game royalties, forever. GTA 6 weighs (get ready) 8.6 BILLION. Ah, but think about the visibility… Shit
No small profit in organized crime?
This situation surrounding GTA 6 is unfortunately not the first sign of possible greed on the part of Rockstar. The situation is in fact reminiscent of the story that rocked Rockstar regarding the sum paid to Michael Hollick, the voice of Niko Bellic in GTA 4. For 15 months of work recording his voice and motion capture, he would have received only $100,000. This situation led to a trial that caused a lot of ink to flow at the time. In this case, we will simply have to be content with not hearing Temptation in GTA 6, which a priori is still expected for 2025 only for PS5 and Xbox Series.
