Shortly after Intel released its new Comet Lake S processors around the top model Core i9 10900K, there are rumors about new CPUs from AMD (via Wccftech).
Three new Ryzen 3000 processors: Specifically, AMD is to replace the current Ryzen models Ryzen 5 3600X, Ryzen 7 3800X and Ryzen 9 3900X with the new CPUs with higher clock rates. They also get the suffix »XT«, which we have only seen so far from Radeon graphics cards:
- Ryzen 5 3600 XT (4.0 / 4.7 GHz instead of 3.8 / 4.4 GHz)
- Ryzen 7 3800 XT (4.2 / 4.7 GHz instead of 3.9 / 4.5 GHz)
- Ryzen 9 3900 XT (4.1 / 4.8 GHz instead of 3.8 / 4.6 GHz)
Nothing changes in the number of cores, so it is still a CPU with six (3600 XT), eight (3800 XT) and twelve cores (3900 XT).
Why new CPUs before Ryzen 4000?
Basically, AMD with Ryzen 3000 is already well positioned against Intel without new models. The Comet Lake release does not change this, as our test of the Core i9 10900K shows:

Comparison test: Intel’s new top model AMD Ryzen
Since AMD started manufacturing the Ryzen 3000 models a long time ago, it would not be surprising if the company sees itself in a position to offer a sufficiently large number of high-clocking chips.
It should also be borne in mind that neither the Ryzen 5 3600X nor the Ryzen 7 3800X have so far been really recommended CPUs, as they are hardly faster than the Ryzen 5 3600 or the Ryzen 7 3700X at a higher price. Faster XT models could improve this situation.
Bringing the Ryzen 9 3900X in a slightly faster version also strengthens AMD’s already good position against main competitor Intel.
Ryzen 3000 Refresh: release date and prices
According to Wccftech, AMD wants to introduce the new models on June 16 and bring them to the market on July 7. That would be exactly one year after the release of the Ryzen 3000 generation.
The prices should be at the level of the current variants without XT addition (see the following overview). Buyers can also expect price reductions on the “old” Ryzen 3000 models:
- Ryzen 5 3600X: about 200 euros
- Ryzen 7 3800X: approx. 340 euros
- Ryzen 9 3900X: approx. 440 euros
