If you own one of the following Android phones from Samsung, Google or Xiaomi, you should soon think about buying a new smartphone:
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold
- Samsung Galaxy S10, S10e and S10+
- Samsung Galaxy A50
- Samsung Galaxy A40
- Samsung Galaxy A10
- Google Pixel 4a
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro
- Xiaomi Mi 10T (Pro)
The reason? The cell phones mentioned will reach the end of support in 2023 or have already reached it. Accordingly, they no longer receive Android updates, which endangers the security of the device and your data.

The Galaxy A10 reached end of support in May 2023. From now on, it will no longer receive security updates. The counterparts in the current Samsung portfolio are the Galaxy A14 and A14 5G models. They currently cost between 150 and 220 dollars, depending on the memory version.

If you want a model that is as future-proof as possible, we recommend that you grab the Galaxy A14 5G. This already supports the new 5G mobile communications standard, which will gradually become the standard. So you don’t have to switch back to a 5G cell phone in two years.
Alternatives to the Galaxy A40
The Galaxy A40 has also not received any updates since May. Samsung is no longer continuing the A4 series. Therefore, there is no direct successor to the model in the South Korean manufacturer’s portfolio.

Three years after the release of the first generation of its foldable smartphones, Samsung is now stopping the updates for these smartphones. There will be no update to Android 13. The cell phone will probably only receive security patches until September 2023. The device had many teething problems that could only be ironed out in the following versions. Nevertheless, it was an absolute revolution in the smartphone market, because Samsung was the first manufacturer to show that foldable smartphones are possible and suitable for the masses.

The current model is available from 1,350 dollars, while the Z Fold 3 costs you just under 1,000 dollars.
