Secret Level: Microsoft rejected idea for brilliant crossover episode

brilliant, crossover, episode, Idea, level, Microsoft, rejected, Secret

In December 2010, Secret Level, an interesting animated series, was launched on Amazon. This follows the anthology principle, so each episode tells its own story, separate from the other episodes. But they all have one thing in common, because they are based on a wide variety of video game brands. But one idea had to be buried.

If we look at the brands that Amazon was able to land for the anthology series Secret Level, the selection is quite impressive. For example, there is an episode based on Pac-Man, a lot of Sifu-related nonsense, a wonderfully silly episode based on New World and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 also did the honors.

On December 10, 2024, Secret Level officially launched on Amazon Prime Video and quickly became a success. Accordingly, the corporate giant has already confirmed a second season. It is currently unknown which brands will be represented there.

It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft is back in the game. As is well known, the Redmond company contributed The Outer Worlds to the animated series in Season 1. But according to Dave Wilson, Secret Level's supervising director, there was originally a different idea.

Because he and the team had come up with a crossover episode in which Doom and Halo collide. More specifically, the Master Chief and the Doom Slayer. We even have acquaintances at both id Software and Microsoft, and the Creative Director of id is a very good friend.

In an interview with Collider, Wilson elaborates on what happened: “We wanted to do a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossover episode, and I spent a whole weekend writing this passionate letter from my childhood. And that's exactly what happened what Tim [Miller, Schöpfer von Secret Level] said; they said, 'Nope'.”

But before you storm Microsoft's offices, consider this: Microsoft wasn't the only one rejecting ideas. Those responsible for Secret Level, for example, were also in contact with Valve and literally begged the company for a Half-Life episode – without success. So we can't wait to see what awaits us in season 2.
