SEGA: Planning your own gaming subscription like Netflix?

SEGA could possibly launch its own Netflix-style gaming subscription in the future. The president of the company revealed this in an interview.

The entertainment world is now full of different streaming subscriptions – and various gaming subscriptions are now a dime a dozen. However, this does not seem to stop other companies such as SEGA from wanting to bring their own product onto the market.

SEGA President Shuji Utsumi revealed in an interview that the company's future plans also include such a subscription model. In conversation with the English BBC Utsumi said that such subscription models were “very interesting” and that SEGA was “evaluating some options” in this regard.

Corresponding plans are already a little more advanced, because according to Utsumi, “we are (already) thinking about something” and “discussing something” internally, but he cannot yet speak about it publicly.

The chances are obviously not that bad that SEGA will bring a gaming/streaming offer onto the market in some form. Whether this can establish itself in the competitive market is then the second question. The biggest driving force is likely to be the Sonic franchise, which definitely has some hardcore fans. Will these be enough to make the offer profitable in the end?
