Do you want to share a website with your friends? With the integrated QR code function you can do this conveniently in the browser. This is how you use the feature.
- Create QR codes in Microsoft Edge
- Generate QR codes in the Chrome browser
- Generate QR codes with add-on in Firefox
- Opera: Create a QR code using a browser plugin
QR code stands for “Quick Response Code” and is a two-dimensional barcode that stores information. Compared to classic barcodes, a QR code can store a larger amount of data in a compact form. This makes it ideal for passing on contact details, entire texts or URLs to other people.
These practical codes have now become an integral part of everyday life. They have become an efficient tool with which you can forward data quickly and easily. In particular, if you come across a website that you would like to share with others, the QR code feature of web browsers can help you.
Most modern browsers not only allow you to scan QR codes, but also generate them directly for individual websites using their built-in functions. These include Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. With Mozilla Firefox and Opera you have to take a little detour. Here's how:
Create QR codes in Microsoft Edge
-
1
Once you have accessed the desired website, right-click to open the page menu and go to “Generate QR code for this page”.
-
2
The Edge browser then generates a QR code for the current website. You can now either copy this and forward it or you can download the code as an image file to your hard drive.
Generate QR codes in the Chrome browser
-
1
In Google Chrome you do a similar thing by right-clicking and selecting “Create QR code for this page”.
-
2
You will now see the generated QR code next to the address bar, which you can scan directly, copy to the clipboard or download as an image file.
Generate QR codes with add-on in Firefox
-
1
First open the menu using the three horizontal lines at the top right of the tab and click on “Add-ons and Themes”.
-
2
Then go to the “Extensions” and scroll all the way down and click on “View more add-ons”.
-
3
The Firefox extensions store opens in a new tab. Now enter “QR code” or “QR code generator” in the search bar and search the shop specifically for add-ons of this type.
-
4
Once you have decided on an add-on, simply add it with one click. Confirm this again by clicking the “Add” button.
-
5
Finally, go to a website of your choice and see the QR code icon on the right in the address bar. If you press the symbol, the extension will generate a QR code that you can now share or download.
