Following the huge success of Deadpool and Wolverine, Shawn Levy will jump from one franchise to another within Disney, as he will focus on one of the most ambitious projects of his career alongside the film starring the loudmouth mercenary: a movie in the Star Wars universe.
Little information is known about this new film, but during a chat on the podcast Happy, Sad, Confusedthe American filmmaker offered the first details, stating that we will see a film that will move away from the repetitive style of the franchise to give it a fresher and more novel approach.
“There are only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline, and that’s been a challenge for me, because I don’t want to make a Star Wars movie that’s redundant with any other movies, nor am I interested in making one that has to serve another movie.”
Although Levy has explained that he will distance himself from central elements of the saga, he also wanted to reassure the most die-hard fans, assuring them that the original essence of the franchise will still be present, but with a different approach to offer something new within this vast universe.
This approach could work, of course, but there are other projects from the past to consider, such as the recent The Acolyte, which received a rather divisive reaction from fans. It remains to be seen how the public and fans take this new installment of the series.
