Although it is decried as crude butt humor in this country, Shin chan is one of the longest-running and most popular anime and manga series in Japan – at least among children and teenagers. With Shin chan: Adventures in Kohlenburg, there is now finally a western release date for the latest video game starring the cheeky rascal.
The story of Shin chan: Adventure in the Coal Castle revolves around a trip. Shin chan and the Nohara family visit the city of Akita, where they rent a remote and quiet farmhouse. Here, Shonnosuke’s (Shin chan) grandfather Ginnosuke teaches him the simple joys of country life, such as bug catching and fishing. They sit by the fire, enjoy local specialties and life couldn’t be more beautiful. But one day something unexpected happens.

The family dog Shiro appears covered in soot and leads Shin chan to a mysterious train. The two get on and end up in a wealthy, lively and very old town called Kohlenburg. Shonnosuke quickly makes friends with the people and experiences his new adventure here.
As the game progresses, you alternate between the two locations of Akita and Kohlenburg. Of course, the humor typical of the original is not missing, but adult players are also kept entertained by an exciting story. The graphic style is based on the simple look of the anime and should therefore push the right buttons, especially for fans.
Shin chan: Adventure in Kohlenburg was released in Japan in February 2024, and now there is finally a release date for the West: you can explore Kohlenburg from October 24, 2024. The best thing about it: Neos has put in the effort and provided a complete German text translation. In terms of platforms, you can get started on the PC via Steam and the Nintendo Switch.
