Shin Megami Tensei 5 has become a real power seller for developer Atlus – and in a very short time.
Like the colleagues from Central Person report, Shin Megami Tensei 5 has brought over 800,000 units to gamers since its launch in November, according to a statement published by Atlus through Japanese game magazine Famitsu. For a series of games that only appeared outside of Japan with its third entry in 2003, this is a huge success.
If you need a comparison: Shin Megami Tensei 4 sold a little more than 600,000 times on the 3DS – but that over its entire lifespan. However, Part 5 has only been on the market for a few months. The magic mark of one million units sold should therefore soon be a thing of history.
This is good news for more games under the umbrella of the huge traditional franchise. This includes not only titles with the name Shin Megami Tensai, but also the Persona series. Fans of both series should be just as happy about the good numbers as the developers.
The statement also mentioned a surprising but as yet unannounced new title as well as the entry into the next phase of the celebrations for Persona’s 25th anniversary. It is currently unclear whether these two mentions are related. Either way, Atlus seems to have a lot more plans for its Demon franchise in 2022.
