Today’s PlayStation State of Play (May 30, 2024) was pretty fruitful, and there was good news (or bad news) for those of you who, like me, are obsessed with all things Silent Hill. Konami’s attempt to remake Silent Hill is paying off, and Silent Hill 2 Remake finally has a release date October 8and will be released on PS5.

While it’s not the September 24th release date I was desperately hoping for, as a fan of reboots/remakes/sequels that release on a game’s anniversary (Silent Hill 2 was first released on September 24th, 2001), I’m excited that we’ll be seeing this game in the coming months. Considering the recent teasers and trailers we’ve seen from Konami (that battle teaser really didn’t give us much hope), as well as new developer Bloober Team, I’m not quite sure what to expect.
In the brief trailer shown during State of Play, we got a close look at the game’s environments, James and Angela, some combat, and most importantly, a close look at Silent Hill’s monsters. We saw the iconic Nurse and the abstract Dad, but no sign of Pyramid Head yet. I was expecting the game’s environments to look a little more spooky, but hey, we’ll see the game’s true atmosphere on October 8th.
It’s no secret that fans have been distrustful of Konami’s handling of its older IPs, but with the Silent Hill reboot, I’m finally hopeful that – much like the Resident Evil 4 remake – this remake might be able to offer fans a fresh, modern take on psychological horror. Who knows if this is what Silent Hill fans need; a good game that brings the series back into the spotlight, or a middling game that finally gives us the ending we all need. Who knows how this will all pan out, but we’ll have a better idea once the October 8 release date rolls around. What are you looking forward to?
