It doesn’t have to be a new smartphone every two years. If the battery does not work well after this time, it can be easily changed on some models. Although the trend on the smartphone market has been towards permanently integrated batteries for years, models with replaceable batteries can still be found in 2021. We introduce them to you.

Fairphone 3

If you are looking for a durable smartphone, you should take a look at the Fairphone 3. With the modular mobile phone, not only the battery, but almost every component can be changed. The well-known repair service provider iFixit even rated the repairability with 10 out of 10 possible points. Technically, the cell phone, released in 2019, is on par with current 200-euro cell phones.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chip acts as the processor in the Fairphone 3, with 4 gigabytes of RAM available. The cell phone offers 64 gigabytes of memory for your data ex works, which can be expanded using a microSD card if necessary. The 5.65-inch cell phone can be ordered from Amazon for just under 400 dollars. With the Fairphone 3+ there is another variant that has a higher resolution camera for an additional charge.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5

The current high-end devices like the Samsung Galaxy S21 or Note 20 no longer offer a replaceable battery. In return, however, the new outdoor cell phone Galaxy Xcover 5. In addition, the mobile phone, which was only released in 2021, has a freely programmable button for your favorite apps or the flashlight. The other hardware is more in the entry-level area.

Nokia 1.3 und Nokia 2.2

The portfolio of the Finnish manufacturer HMD Global also includes two mobile phones with exchangeable batteries: the Nokia 1.3 and the Nokia 2.2. They date from 2020 and 2019, respectively. Both devices are available in stores for just under 100 dollars and are also technically very similar. Of course, you shouldn’t expect much here at this price – especially not from the built-in cameras.

However, the cell phones are suitable for everyday tasks such as chatting, telephoning and surfing the net. As it is Android One-Handys you are also guaranteed two major Android updates and security patches for three years.

Are you toying with buying one of the two Nokia phones? Then you would recommend the Nokia 1.3, as this phone was only released in April 2020 and accordingly receives software support for half a year longer than the Nokia 2.2.

Motorola Moto E6s

The Motorola Mot E6s is also available in stores for just under 100 dollars. Of course, this is also an entry-level smartphone. It was also published in 2020. It is equipped for everyday tasks such as emailing, chatting and surfing, but the computing power is not enough for more.

Since the Moto E6s is not an Android One phone, you shouldn’t expect an update to Android 10 either. In return, the Motorola cell phone shines with a colorful design.

Gigaset GS3 and Gigaset GS4

The Gigaset GS3 and GS4 mobile phones are also in the entry-level segment. The Octa-core processor Helio P70 from MediaTek works in the GS4, the Helio A25 chip in the GS3. Both smartphones offer four gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of internal memory, which can be expanded with a microSD card.

With both phones, you can replace the battery yourself. The cell phones also provide support Wireless Charging. The two Gigaset smartphones have been available in stores for around 200 dollars since November 2020.

Does it have to be a smartphone with a replaceable battery?

The selection of current smartphones with replaceable batteries is small, so you should ask yourself whether it really has to be an easily replaceable battery. Current top smartphones also do Mid-range cell phones namely, offer modern batteries that do not lose much of their maximum capacity even after several years of use. A short battery life can often be traced back to software problems.

Through techniques like Qualcomm Quick Charge If the worst comes to the worst, the devices can be recharged sufficiently within a few minutes. Should there still be problems with the battery, you can have permanently installed energy cells changed in a specialist workshop.

In view of the small selection of smartphones with exchangeable batteries, you should therefore consider whether under these circumstances a device with a permanently installed “battery” might not be an option.
