Bethesda releases new crunchy information and some gameplay snippets about the highly anticipated Starfield. Here’s everything you need to remember.
Absent from the 2022 Game Awards, Starfield returns with a new video. This time the developers are answering questions from players, especially about the quests of this new license, which is supposed to be much more than a “Skyrim in space”. A brief summary of everything that has been said. We urge you to watch the video as some gameplay snippets crept into this interview.
Starfield Quest Details
Will Shen, lead quest designer, participated in fans’ questions. Despite a lavish presentation this year, several gray areas remain around Starfield. Today Bethesda tells us more about the quests of its first new license in a very long time. The game will obviously have ambitions to further advance certain mechanics of its other productions while maintaining the soul of the Bethesda titles (we’re not talking about bugs).
For example, one of the aspects that players like are the random encounters in the publisher’s open worlds. As Starfield relies on new technology to populate entire planets that allow for different approaches. For example, it will be possible to meet a whole group of people at an outpost you’ve already visited, when previously only one person was there. They might then have various problems or quests for you, such as asking you to rescue their friends who have been captured by pirates in another location. In other words, anywhere and anytime you can do random encounters.
Some quests also allow you to return to our solar system to encourage you to find out what happened to Earth and the aftermath of what happened. For example, Will Shen mentions bases installed on Mars, one of the oldest of which is called “Cydonia”.
Factions and companions, what differences with Skyrim and Fallout 4?
One of the aspects expected at the turn also concerns the parliamentary groups. Skyrim and Fallout 4 both had different approaches to the subject. What about Starfield? The main mission of the game allows players to quickly discover all factions, their missions and their positions on specific issues. Finally it will be possible to help all these groups independently and complete the quests. However, their stories will be a bit more personal than usual, and your character’s influence on them and their politics should be felt. However, don’t expect to end up at the top of all factions, expect direct consequences. The same goes for all the side quests where your choices affect the fate of several main and side characters.
Companions will also play an important role in players’ journeys. As in Fallout 4, they each have their own perspective on the choices you make throughout the main story. However, you can speak in certain situations and in certain dialogues if you wish. Example given: You can be denied passage to a certain location and your comrade can pull you out of the situation if requested. This will obviously have consequences, both good and bad. For the rest, we find rather classic mechanics. Your companions will follow you in battle, you can swap gear with them, and as a little novelty, they can join your ship’s crew to help with specific tasks.
