A few months before the release of Hogwarts Legacy on February 10, 2023 can be found on the Steam page of the game precise information about the required hardware. However, the additional notes are currently still causing confusion due to a small detail.
What detail is it? The commendably provided information on the exact resolution, FPS number and level of detail is followed by an addition to the setting of the upscaling process for both the minimum requirements and the recommended hardware. In principle, this is also welcome from our point of view, but in this case something cannot be quite right.
Controversy um JK Rowling
Comments by Harry Potter author JK Rowling about trans people have repeatedly sparked controversy. This article tells the storywhat exactly Rowling said and what the reactions were. The author is not directly involved in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, but indirectly benefits from profits from the Harry Potter brand through the trademark rights.
The resolution specified in the requirements is relatively low with Full HD or 1920×1080 pixels. If upscaling is also used with such a resolution, the image threatens to become very blurred.
The reason: When upscaling, the game is rendered internally in a lower resolution to increase the FPS and then scaled back up to the desired target resolution as efficiently as possible. You can find out more about this in our articles on Nvidia’s DLSS variant and AMD’s FSR. At Intel, the counterpart is called XeSS. The new trailer shows what you can expect from Hogwarts Legacy in general:

The hardware mentioned is too fast for upscaling in Full HD
Since Steam has not yet specified exactly which upscaling method is involved, it remains unclear which render resolution is to be assumed. However, the known values of Nvidia’s DLSS can serve as a rough guide.
The actual resolution is the one specified in the minimum specifications performance setting of DLSS in Full HD only at 960×540 pixels. Come the stage quality
from the recommended Hogwarts Legacy requirements for use on Steam are 1280×720 Pixel.
In order to achieve 60 FPS in such resolutions with low or high details, the mentioned hardware sounds far too fast. This also applies in view of the atmospheric but certainly not outstanding look of the game based on Unreal Engine 4, as can be seen in the trailer above.

We expect a correction
Since the system requirements on Steam for Hogwarts Legacy are pretty accurate, it doesn’t appear to be just a hastily typed placeholder, although it is im Epic Store so far there is no information about it. However, we assume that the Steam information will be adjusted again, at least with a view to the upscaling information.
We will also be contacting the developers to potentially shed some light on this without the Lumos spell. If you want to pass the time until the confusion is clarified, we recommend our podcast with YouTube legend Coldmirror on the game:
