Huge armies collide in the Kickstarter trailer for Songs of Syx
The developer of Songs of Syx – which we introduced to you in January – started a Kickstarter campaign. The goals of the new video game are quite ambitious: According to the one-man Gamatron team, Songs of Syx "cannot be assigned to an existing genre".
Rather, it should »A unique mixture« of the city-state simulation represent. "Jake the Dev" wants to convince you of this project with its free-to-play prototype.
Here is the free version: With version 0.51.34 the last freely available test version of the game for Windows, Linux and MacOS was released. You can download it from itch.io. All other updates are reserved for supporters of the Kickstarter campaign. An official tutorial from the developer will help you get started.
What makes Songs of Syx unique?
- Different phases: You are not solely concerned with the development of your city. While in the beginning you bring a small village over the first winter as in Rimworld, the game moves away later and you have to manage a gigantic city. You cannot build any more yourself, but you can take it over and make it your vassal.
- Commanding armies: There are many tasks you can assign to nobles as you begin building an army to fight battles and campaign. This is said to remind Gamatron of games like Rome: Total War.
- Internal politics and intrigue: From then on, you run the risk of falling victim to an intrigue. Because some nobles may see themselves more on the throne and will try to overthrow you. Accordingly, you must expand your influence by putting the needs of your subjects before your own. So you can determine different ways of dealing with the individual peoples in your city.
- Dynamic culture: With your decisions you have an influence on how your empire develops. From a state full of warlike barbarians to a flourishing democracy, everything should be possible.
- Play as villain: The developer also plans the opportunity to play as an evil overlord who kidnaps and enslaves citizens from cities. However, he is still not sure whether he can actually implement this feature. He told us that work on it, if at all, could begin in about five years at the earliest when the rest of the game is done.
