Another rumor in the run-up to yesterday’s State of Play has finally been confirmed: SEGA has officially announced a new Sonic game with the iconic blue hedgehog.
SEGA used the PlayStation State of Play stage last night to officially announce the new Sonic X Shadow Generations. The new title based around the iconic blue hedgehog includes a completely new story campaign built around Shadow – complete with never-before-seen powers and abilities. Also part of the game: a complete remaster of the original version of Sonic Generations for the current generation of consoles. In the end it’s an all-round carefree package for Sonic fans!
In terms of play, SEGA promises “a mixture of the game mechanics of Shadow, Classic Sonic and modern Sonic” for the title. Whether this can succeed remains to be seen in the current year, as Sonic X Shadow Generations will be available in autumn 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series
The new campaign that will then be available is built around Shadow, whose arch-enemy Black Doom returns and threatens to conquer the world. You play as Shadow and delve deep into his past, unlocking inner powers and exploring the character’s backstory. You will have to deal with a lot of well-known opponents.
The remaster of Sonic Generations wants to merge the iconic 2D era with the gameplay of the more modern 3D offshoots. The story here revolves around Sonic and his friends, whose universe is thrown into chaos when a new threat emerges, sending them on a turbulent journey through time and dimensions. As you are used to from such new editions, you can look forward to improved graphics, new challenges and further bonus content.
