Introduced to the depths of video gaming in 1991, Sonic is THE mascot of SEGA, born to compete with Mario to offer more edgy, “rebellious”, mature gameplay. 31 years later it is still around and many projects are underway. But one of its creators is in turmoil.
Sonic is doing well, his co-creator less so
Worn by Sonic Frontiers, it has sold and sold over 2.5 million copies a second film that was a hit
Unfortunately things are not going so well for Yuji Naka, co-creator of the license. He was never known for being a simple person, quite the opposite, and would have been fired from SEGA after demanding a general wage increase. him then own founded, his studio before joining Square Enix, where he helped create Balan Wonderworld. The title was received very poorly, and the adventure would have stopped there.
Yuji Naka arrested and now charged!
But on November 18th we found out Yuji Naka was reportedly arrested in Japan on suspicion of insider trading
Alongside Taisuke Sazaki, a former Square Enix employee who has appeared on several episodes of series such as Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy, and a certain Fumiaki Suzuki, he would have had that bought for 28 million yen Action at Aiming Studio
Arrested again at the beginning of December, he has to answer in court. Allegedly Yuji Naka, according to NHK and VGC officially charged for insider trading by the Special Investigation Division of the Tokyo District Procuratorate. For Justice, Naka and Sasaki would never have invested a total of 144.7 million yen if they didn’t know what Square Enix was up to, whether with Aiming for Dragon Quest or other mobile projects. We’ll have to wait the next few months to know the end of the case.
