The Forest has long been one of the best kept secrets when it comes to survival horror. Now the successor is getting closer and you can expect some innovations.
Crashing on a deserted island can get pretty nasty, and anyone who’s played The Forest knows that well enough. With Sons of the Frest, the successor is scheduled to come to the PC on February 23 – it will also be ten years after the first and nine months after the start of Early Access.
As the date approaches, the developers are now revealing some details about what to expect in Sons of the Forest. The basic theme should remain the same: once again you are on an island and you have to see how you can manage there.
In any case, it is certain that the terrain of the game will be much more extensive. Sons of the Forest is said to be four times larger than its predecessor. The environments should be much more detailed and varied, as well as the visualization of player actions, for example when crafting.
That being said, the developers have come up with a whole new AI system: “The AI in the first game was something that the players really liked, so we wanted to take that to the next level with Sons. We have a whole new AI system developed that allows for some really interesting and spooky encounters.”
New weapons and tools are also available to players. This includes firearms and new explosives, but also a 3D printer that you can use to make useful but realistic items. There is also a handheld with GPS, which should make navigation easier for you.
It was only recently announced that there will also be AI-controlled companions that you can hire to relieve you of tedious work, for example gathering resources or expanding your base, but also in combat. So it will be interesting to see what else awaits us.
