Kelvin isn’t exactly the brightest candle on the cake, despite or perhaps because of this, the NPC was able to take the hearts of the Sons of the Forest community by storm. But this romance is now facing its first major test. Because thanks to the latest patch for Sons of the Forest, Kelvin isn’t that stupid anymore – and not every player likes that.
Is this a buff or a nerf?
Patch 01 brought Sons of the Forest a handful of useful improvements and even useful new features – such as a glider, binoculars and an additional boss fight. However, opinions differ on a … fix(?) of the update.
Kelvin got a slightly bigger brain, with which the friendly NPC and optional companion doesn’t do quite as much mischief as before. Specifically, this is expressed, for example, in the fact that Kelvin no longer cuts down trees on which games try to build their shelters.
The fact that Kelvin can actually do something now causes some resentment among some players. Because the smarter Kelvin is no longer the Kelvin they came to know and love. This is expressed, for example, in the comments under the following Reddit post:
Kelvin just isn’t Kelvin anymore
– cyber_artNow I hate Kelvin
– Financial-Look-1155OK, that’s it. I replace Kelvin. The next cannibal that walks through my gate will become my new companion.
[Die Entwickler] need to add an option for it. Somewhat “Awkward Kelvin” and “Clever Kelvin” that players can switch between

Of course you should read the comments and the Grief
around Kelvin some players don’t take it too seriously. Across from PCGamer
Players shouldn’t worry too much, there are still plenty of ways Kelvin can use to destroy your base […]. We plan to add even more abilities to Kelvin in Early Access, hoping to make it useful and fun at the same time.
Before the patch, Kelvin was using a loyal and not particularly smart dog compared, which brought a certain charm due to its clumsiness. Players shared their curious observations, conducted insane experiments with Kelvin, and the GameStar community also fell in love with the goofy companion.
Which do you prefer: A clumsy, silly Kelvin or a clever, useful Kelvin? Let us know in the comments!
