Sony has significantly intensified its own PC efforts in recent months and has published or announced numerous PlayStation-exclusive titles for this platform as well. But what about future first-party games in this regard? There is now an answer to this question.
As expected, Sony also wants to bring future first-party games to the PC, but PC gamers will still not get PS5 blockbusters at the same time as the PS5 release. Accordingly, the big in-house games from Sony will remain exclusive to the PlayStation for “at least a year” before they can find their way to the PC.
At least that’s what Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, has said on the subject. However, there should still be an exception to this rule: live service games can also hit the PC earlier than a year after the original PlayStation release.
Sony had recently released several first-party titles on the PC, including Days Gone, God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. The PC pipeline also includes other previous PlayStation exclusives such as Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection.
Hulst added that it was “great” for Sony studios to see their games released on PC as it would appeal to additional layers of gamers. In general, Sony is also satisfied with how the games have performed on the PC so far. Nevertheless, for the time being, Microsoft will not be pursuing an approach of releasing games simultaneously on Xbox and PC – the exception being live service games.
Hulst also provides the reason for this exception: live service titles essentially live from a strong community right from the start. Therefore, such games could even come out on the same day for PC and PS5. Earlier this year, Sony said it was currently working on 10 such live service games to be released by 2026.
