Sony Interactive Entertainment has been working on the headset that will succeed PlayStation VR on PS5 for some time. The matter has long been official. But Sony isn’t just PlayStation. Another branch of the electronics giant is exploring virtual reality. And she recently revealed the fruits of her labor.
Sony used the Sony Technology Day to present a prototype of an 8K virtual reality headset. Equipped with micro OLED screens, this headset promises a great improvement in graphics quality and reduced latency. The project was presented by research and development engineers from Sony Group Corporation.
Virtual Reality soon in 8K?
According to the people behind this virtual reality headset, each of the “MicrodisplaysThe headset represents 4K. The resolution of 8K is achieved by combining the two. In terms of latency, the data is sent in less than 0.01 seconds.
As the pictures and videos of this prototype show, we are still a long way from a marketable model. However, the technological advances in virtual reality headsets are widespread. And it’s interesting to note the display quality that can now be achieved on reduced size helmets.
The PlayStation VR 2 is not included?
It currently appears unlikely that such 8K technology will be embedded in the PlayStation VR 2. Sony has not yet officially launched the virtual reality headset for the PS5. On the other hand, he has already introduced his controllers.
As for the headset itself, there are rumors of 4K HDR OLED panels. The PlayStation VR 2 would also use eye movement detection related to foveal rendering. However, these elements have not yet been confirmed by Sony.
For its part, Sony promises that the PS5’s virtual reality headset will be a “dramatic leap in performance and interactivity. “According to the latest rumors from the hallway, this new helmet should land at the end of 2022.
