Despite what you may have heard recently, Ubisoft It itself has crushed any rumors that it was working on a Blade game.
Initial rumors that Ubisoft was working on a Blades game based on Marvel characters stemmed from a July Instagram post showing motion-captured actors in Ubisoft-branded suits. Not only that, but one of the images shows one of the actors holding a clapboard that says the production name is Marvel.
The flames of this rumor lit again when YouTuber and Ubisoft leaker JorRaptor pointed out that clapperboard also lists Bassam Tariq as director, who is directing Marvel’s 2023 Blade reboot. However, in a very unusual move for the developer, Ubisoft actually put out an announcement saying, no, the studio isn’t working on a Blade game.
“Sorry to break the rumor, we’re not making a Blade game,” wrote Ubisoft’s official Twitter account. “We can’t wait to see what our friends at Marvel Studios are doing for next year’s movies!”
Normally, most studios don’t bother to respond to rumors, especially if they’re inaccurate, but apparently Ubisoft felt it needed to do so in this case.
To be fair to those who think a Blade game might be on the way, both actors are video game motion capture actors. One of the actors, Alex Martin, even worked with Ubisoft on a trailer before Beyond Good and Evil 2
The clapboard might just be the actors having fun, but unless Ubisoft explains in more detail, or if one of the actors provides an explanation of what’s going on, or even the Ubisoft project they’re recording.
Ubisoft is working on other projects under the Disney umbrella, notably the recently delayed Avatar: Pandora’s Frontier and the open-world Star Wars game, but the Blades game is just a pipe dream for now.
