Are you impatiently waiting for the upcoming split cell Remake? You know, the one that’s apparently being rewritten for a modern audience and recently lost its director (11 years at Ubisoft)? Well, if the wait has been too much, we’ve got some good news for you: Splinter Cell is back – in drama form on BBC Radio 4!
Yes, it’s weird. According to a BBC release, the radio drama follows veteran Fourth Echelon operative Sam Fisher on a new mission to “recruit and train the next generation of Splinter Cell operatives for the NSA’s covert operations arm”.
“When a deadly assassin from Fisher’s past returns from the dead to carry out a murderous mission, he is forced to race against time as a sinister threat to global security is revealed.”
If you’re a regular on BBC Radio 4, you’ll recognize the mellow tone of the actor who plays Sam Fisher – everyone’s favorite wet agent is played by Andonis Anthony, best known for his role on BBC Radio’s The Archers. According to the Beeb, you can also expect to hear the talents of Daisy Head, Rosalie Craig, Sacha Dhawan, Nikesh Patel and Will Poulter.
There’s a lot of BBC talent in the show; the whole thing is written by Sebastian Baczkiewicz and Paul Cornell, the latter of whom has been on Doctor Who, Ho… Books have been published on Holby City and Casualty.
the whole thing is about to start Friday, December 2 2:15 p.m. (GMT). All eight episodes will be live simultaneously and can be listened to on the BBC Sounds app.
This is the prelude to the highly anticipated Splinter Cell remake, which was first announced last year and is being developed by Ubisoft Toronto (most recently responsible for Far Cry 6). We don’t know much about the project other than Ubi saying “yes, it’s real” — though it might still be a way out: producer Matt West said back in 2021 that the game ” in the early stages of development.”
But at least you have a radio show to help you while you wait.
