So far, audio books have been more niche for German users of Spotify. But that should change. In April 2025, Spotify increased his audio book offer for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein many times over. From now on you can enjoy 350,000 audio books, many of them also in German. This includes popular works such as “ink heart” by Cornelia Funke or “22 Lahnen” by Caroline Wahl.
If you are Spotify Premium subscribers (individual, family or duo), you can also look forward to a bonus. You get a free contingent of twelve hours per month to stream audio books of your choice. This is about to stream an entire audio book every month. With the Spotify Premium Duo-subscription and family subscription, however, this free quota is reserved for the respective main user.
Free audio books for premium users
If you are not enough for these twelve hours, you can unlock an additional ten hours for 9.99 dollars each. Rest hours do not expire at the end of a month, but are taken over. If you do not have a Spotify Premium subscription, you still do not have to do without the new audiobook catalog. In this case, you unlock individual audio books for a predetermined price. It turns out differently depending on the audio book.
The Step from Spotify does not come as a surprise. After all, the streaming service is particularly popular for its large selection of music. With regard to audio books, the US provider has had to share the market for years with strong competitors such as Audible and Bookbeat. The improved audio book offer could also make Spotify a real alternative for audiobook fans.
