news culture Squid Game: Already a release window for season 2 of the Netflix series!
Squid Game, the 2021 back-to-school box, is back in the spotlight today. Yes, its creator has good news: Season 2 already has a release window!
Squid Game Season 2, when?
After scores skyrocketed in 2021 — the series still drew more than 110 million viewers — Squid Game could be eligible for a second season sooner than expected. In fact, Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series creator, spoke on the Vanity Fair mic to announce the big news: Season 2 of the series could land as early as next year or 2024 at the latest.
To back up his words, the creator says he’s currently in the process of having “final discussions” with Netflix about Season 2. For our part, however, we find him very optimistic. In fact, he also states that he only has three pages of ideas to turn into a likely script. In other words, all tests of the next season are far from written. But Hwang Dong-hyuk assures and affirms that there will be many macabre games and that “humanity will be tested once more”. Something that makes our mouths water.
Another piece of good news, we learn Seong Gi-hun, the main character played by Lee Jung-jae, will be making a comeback
Heading towards a squid gaming universe?
Since the series is a success like Marvel’s MCU and DC Comics’ DCEU, it could be that Squid Game also has the right to own Squid Game Universe. It was Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO, who pitched the idea in an interview. He had stated that Squid Game Season 2 would help shape a “Squid Game Universe”. What we can understand by this is that spin-offs of the series could see the light of day. Why not a feature film?
