I still remember the moment 30 years ago when I got my own copy of Starwing for the SNES and a few years later with the mythical Lylat Wars on Nintendo 64. However, what I never came to think of at the time is that those weren’t their real names. Actually, they were the ones that were chosen for the versions that were published in Europe.
It would be understandable to a large part of the world’s population that it would squeak to know that we knew the first two installments of the Nintendo saga around here with those names, since in the rest of the territories they have always been Star Fox and Star Fox 64 So why this change?
Thanks to Dylan Cuthbert, one of the developers who was part of the Nintendo team that worked on the Star Fox
For this reason, it was also decided to give another name to Star Fox 64 and in this case the one of Lylat Wars, which really does not look bad if we take into account that all the action takes place in the Lylat System and we get fully involved in a war against Andross’s army. The thing is that Nintendo wanted to avoid getting into legal trouble that could affect release date and they opted for this simpler path.
Even so, these have been the only times in which this peculiar situation has occurred. From the year 2002, when it went on sale Star Fox Adventures On GameCube, this was the name that was maintained in all markets around the world, as has happened subsequently with the rest of the deliveries that have been arriving. More than anything because it was considered that by then the risk of confusion no longer existed and it was not necessary to continue opting for such different names.
