In Star Trek: Picard Season 3, the Borg Queen is back. Of course, fans of the “Star Trek” universe ask themselves which version of the Borg Queen we are dealing with. Alice Krige is confirmed as an actress in the credits. She had previously played the role in Star Trek: First Contact.

So it’s relatively clear that this is the same Borg Queen as the ones in the movie and the finale of Star Trek: Voyager. Susanna Thompson also played the Borg Queen intermittently on the show, but this was due to Alice Krige being unavailable.

So Susanna Thompson’s and Alice Krige’s Borg Queen is the same Borg Queen, just the one from “Star Trek: Picard” Season 2. There is a Borg Queen played by Annie Wersching. The decision to take a new actress also had a reason in this context.

Annie Wersching’s Borg Queen is from a different timeline and it should be clear to viewers that this isn’t the same Borg Queen as seen in First Contact and Voyager. It has even been confirmed that at the time of “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3, two Borg collectives exist in parallel.

So there is the collective of Alice Kriges/Susanna Thompson’s Borg Queen and that of Annie Wersching’s Borg Queen, who, however, lives on in the body of Agnes Jurati (Alison Pill) and therefore no longer looks like Annie Wersching. Through a ruse by Q (John de Lancie), Agnes’ collective has migrated to the Prime timeline.

By the end of Season 2, Starfleet has befriended the Borg collective under Agnes Jurati. Thus, Starfleet would actually have its own collective ready to face the rogue collective of the Borg Queen. However, Alison Pill is not confirmed for Star Trek: Picard Season 3. It is unclear whether their collective will still play a role.

On April 21, 2023 we can expect the finale to be streamed on Paramount+ and Amazon Prime Video. This year we also have many more “Star Trek” new releases in the Paramount+ New Releases program!
