Star Trek Section 31: Official trailer for the new “Star Trek” film
The new teaser for “Star Trek: Section 31” gives a first look at the new characters alongside Michelle Yeoh’s Georgiou, played by Omari Hardwick, Rob Kazinsky, Humberly González, Kacey Rohl, Sven Ruygrok and Sam Richardson.
Star Trek Section 31: This is Philippa Georgiou!
Philippa Georgiou has been part of “Star Trek: Discovery” since the beginning. However, she dies in the second episode. Later on, the crew of the Discovery meets the mirror version of Georgiou, who eventually takes the place of the primary Georgiou in our universe. We have five exciting facts for you:
Plot of “Star Trek: Section 31”
The new “Star Trek” series is about Section 31, the secret division of Starfleet. Missions are carried out in the shadows outside of the books, essentially the dirty work of Starfleet. At the center is Philippa Georgiou, who joined the organization in “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2.
It is unclear whether the film will follow on directly from this. At the end of the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery,” Georgiou traveled to the 32nd century, 900 years into the future, only to be sent back in time through a portal at the end of the third season. It is unclear which time period she was sent to. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman has already revealed that many fan theories are far from the actual plot.
I am very excited to see where we are headed. And I can’t wait to see Michelle [Yeoh] to be seen in this role. […] I think people will be very surprised by the world they find. We have seen many things online where [Fans über die Handlung der Serie] speculate, but some are not even close to [was uns vorschwebt]. This is great fun!

“Star Trek: Section 31”: Cast
Michelle Yeoh is naturally cast in the lead role of Phillipa Georgiou in “Section 31”. However, viewers of “Star Trek: Discovery” know that the role is a person from the mirror universe. This means that the Georgiou in the series is very egocentric, brutal and Darwinian.
Joining Yeoh are Omari Hardwick (“Power”), Kacey Rohl (“Hannibal”), Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”, “Veep”), Sven Ruygrok (“One Piece”), Robert Kazinsky (“EastEnders”), Humberly Gonzalez (“Ginny & Georgia”) and James Hiroyuki Liao (“Barry”).
It is still unknown what roles they will play. It has also not been revealed whether other fan favorites such as Shazad Latif from “Star Trek: Discovery” will return in his role as Ash Tyler. As a former Klingon in human body, he certainly brings the necessary level of cold brutality to work in the secret organization. If the series follows on from “Discovery” in terms of time, a crossover with “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” would be conceivable.
But there have also been rumors for some time that Alexander Siddig from “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” could return. This would suggest that “Section 31” would not be set in the 23rd century, but in the late 24th or early 25th century. If this is the case, one could hope for appearances by the stars of “Star Trek: Picard”.
Section 31: Production of the “Star Trek” series
The film is directed by “Star Trek: Discovery” director Olatunde Osunsanmi. The screenplay was written by Craig Sweeny. Alex Kurtzman, Sweeny, Aaron Baiers, Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Michelle Yeoh serve as executive producers on “Star Trek: Section 31”. Filming began in late January 2024.
“Star Trek: Section 31”: This is what’s coming in the “Star Trek” future!
“Star Trek: Discovery” opened the door for many series in the “Star Trek” universe. We can expect many more new releases from the “Star Trek” universe soon. We have listed them all for you!
The Netzwelt forecast for “Star Trek: Section 31”
It’s nice to see Michelle Yeoh return to the Star Trek universe. Since Star Trek: Discovery ends next year, it makes sense that a spin-off film will follow, but the question remains: How can Section 31 be meaningfully integrated into the overall context of the Star Trek universe? As a continuation of the story of an already established character, the film cannot stand alone due to its very nature.
