Still no gameplay, but a companion as cute as it is useful. Watch the latest Starfield video to meet VASCO
Just days after images of an old build circulated around the internet, Starfield returns with a new official video. And like other developer diaries, the media focuses on a very specific aspect of the game.
VASCO, the future Starfield mascot?
To make you forget the almost unsightly pictures from 2018, Bethesda is undoubtedly introducing a new developer notebook. No space base, no environments, no gameplay snippets. The new drawers focus on one thing: VASCO. Behind this acronym hides a red and white expedition robot that is as cute as it is friendly.
Part of the Constellation Service, this small, two-legged metal creature was designed to aid in extended expeditions. To do this, it will be outfitted with components that will enable it to carry survival gear and other payloads. The robot is all-terrain and can cross any uneven surface. In short, the ideal companion for long space journeys.
A cute but potentially terrifying robot
However, don’t let her cute looks fool you. If he is a pacifist, the robot is not defenseless. Starfield lead artist Istvan Pely explains that VASCO can be formidable in the event of retaliation. Words supported by the concept art shown in the video, which suggests some sort of assault rifle in his right arm. Also note the presence of a square box on his shoulders, likely containing a rocket launcher or similar arsenal.
«He’s a dependable companion and an intrepid explorer, just like you.‘ the artist concludes in the video. As a little bonus, some excerpts from what appear to be Starfield game images support this new dev diary. Opportunity to see VASCO move around a planet, talk and see the main character in the cockpit of his ship. For more concrete gameplay, we’ll surely have to wait until this summer during Summer Game Fest 2022.
