Hardware news Steam Deck: eBay is taking action against the resale of pre-orders
A week ago Valve unveiled the Steam Deck, its portable console that uses SteamOS and makes it possible to run a large portion of the titles sold on the platform. Pre-orders opened quickly, attracting scalpers, people who pre-ordered or bought products and bet on their scarcity to make a profit.
And as you might expect Offers on eBay or other resale sites blossomed quickly. A number of pre-orders for the three models were quickly on offer, with the prices are sometimes more than $ 2,000. But if you’ve been browsing eBay for the past few days, you may have noticed that those ads are almost entirely gone. The point is that‘eBay has ragedbecause these announcements violate the pre-order policy. The rule is that all ads of this type must guarantee shipping within 30 days, which obviously wasn’t the case. In a press release Eurogamer
We understand how frustrating it can be for gamers to see overpriced ads for pre-sale material. To comply with eBay’s pre-sale guidelines, ads must clearly state that they are pre-sale items, and shipping must be guaranteed within 30 days of purchase. As the Steam Deck is not expected to ship until next year (actually in December for early pre-orders), these offers violate our pre-sale guidelines.
Valve also has recently changed the schedule. In France, apart from the few buyers who were able to secure an order for December, all pre-orders showed the possibility of an order confirmation in the first quarter of 2022. From now on we have to wait for the second trimester to finally confirm the Steam Deck order.
