Steam Deck: Valve is planning further developments and new versions

Deck, developments, planning, Steam, Valve, versions

In February, Valve released its first version of Steam Deck: a PC-based portable console that draws on Steam’s library of games. This was well received, so it’s no wonder that there should also be other versions of the hardware.

Valve’s Steam Deck has enjoyed significant and notable success since its original release in February this year, which is certainly due to the availability of numerous top titles. Basically, the vast majority of PC games on Steam are compatible with the Steam Deck, so there is plenty of choice for gaming on the go or at home. But what’s next for the Steam Deck?

In an interview of the Japanese Famitsu said several Valve employees, including designer Greg Coomer. This confirms: “As long as there are no major changes, there will be a next generation of Steam deck products in the future.” The concrete design, for example in terms of size or form factor, has not yet been finalized, but it is quite certain that it will go further. A device that relies on game streaming is also conceivable in this respect.

Pierre-Loup Griffais, another developer of the hardware at Valve, emphasizes that future hardware revisions are primarily aimed at improving battery life and general optimizations. In terms of battery life, improvements have already been made since the original launch, which is achieved by optimizing the operating system.

Compared to the English-speaking colleagues from Polygon Valve commented that new generations of the Steam Deck are “definitely” planned, but a streaming option is not a current focus; but that could change in the future.
