NOTICE– This post contains MAJOR SPOILERS for The Witcher 3.
In previous episodes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt… I’ve scoured the world in search of allies and collecting favors for the battle that looms over Kaer Morhen. Later, I finally found Ciri on the Isle of Mists and brought her to the fortress. The Wild Hunt is coming… and there is much to prepare.
I have managed to gather all allies I have been able to: Letho, Zoltan, Triss Merigold, Roche, Ves, Hjalmar, Ermine and the sword Winter’s Edge (gift of the Crach an Craite) join Yennefer, Vesemir, Lambert and Eskel in the fortress. In addition, Keira Metz attends the call by surprise. Everyone will help me defend the walls so that the wild hunt don’t catch Ciri.
preparations for battle
There is no time to lose. We all meet to plan the defenses. Eredin does not expect one organized resistance, so taking the initiative will destabilize his attack. Yennefer will be in charge of creating a great protective dome, which will protect the castle and force his troops to appear in the forest, where I will be with Lambert to hunt them down before they regroup. And we will have dimerita to support us.
And we will not be alone! Yennefer assigns Triss Merigold to support us: she will throw big fireballs to the areas that we point out to defeat large groups of enemies. The rest of the preparations is a set of choices, special weapons and terrain elements that we can take advantage of:
- Between laboratory (potions and traps) and the taller (higher quality wall and swords), I choose to craft traps to compensate for their numerical superiority and clear out the armory for better swords.
- Zoltan He brings with him his ax and Mahakam mixture, which is a formula similar to Napam.
- ermine it will take advantage of natural gas deposits to create explosions in strategic places.
The rest of the allies will be posted by the fortress waiting for them to push us back. The outer and inner areas of the fortress are narrow, so your numerous troops will be of no use. Before finishing, I take the opportunity to make potions, sharpen my swords, fix my armor and check that I have everything I need to fight those bastards.
Kaer Morhen’s horn blasts one last time
Everything is ready. It doesn’t take long for Eredin to show up with his winter chill, but Yennefer has seen to it. protect the whole fortress with the dome. Meanwhile, Triss Merigold burns the first advance parties of the Wild Hunt. It is a glorious spectacle! Soon after, Lambert and I took action. She echoes the steel of swords and the roars of beasts.
There is no quarter. He bleeding from my swords gradually destroys the life bars of my enemies. Their number is irrelevant. They lack conviction. Even so, they push us back little by little. Meanwhile, Ciri bursts into the battle while Zoltan bellows and thumps to the enemies that manage to sneak in. The girl runs to Triss, who is being attacked. The witch throws one last shower of fire before retreating.
The offensive is over. It’s time to go on the defensive. The battle centers on the outer courtyard of the fortress, where we once trained in peace. I have played this part 4-5 times and I always live it with the same rage: “Get out of my house, beastsI think every time. I close the great gate after protecting Ermiño from a pack of packs, which gives us enough time to retreat to the inner courtyard of the fortress.
They advance. They think they’re unstoppable… but traps, stoat-activated natural gas rifts, and Zoltan’s Mahakam are busy reminding invaders that they must earn every inch from this point. And those who survive find the edge of my sword. I take out soldiers and beasts for several minutes. We all fight in a very small space. It is monumental chaos.
They end up cornering us at the gate of the fortress, so we take the battle to a small field. I’ve lost count of the enemies I’ve killed. Resources are running low, my swords are nearly smashed, and my armor is on its last legs. we resist.
And just when it seems like they’re receding, the sorcerer appears. Caranthir, one of Eredin’s hands. Eskel confronts him in a breathtaking cinematic. Despite the sorcerer’s swordsmanship, magic prevails… but Ciri intervenes before she kills him. The young woman rebalances the balance and makes the sorcerer flee.
The battle drags on for several more minutes. They don’t press, although we don’t have much more to give either. Then, the outer gate falls and a wave of cold enters, freezing Ezkel, Lambert and me. Eredin, Caranthir e Imlerith (another of Eredin’s hands) advance while ignoring us.
The three lords of the Wild Hunt approach Ciri. Vesemir stands in the way between them and the girl. The old wolf bravely against Imlerith and confronts Eredin himself to prevent Ciri from being taken away. “You were always a rebellious girl. always loved that about yousays Vesemir before Imlerith snaps his neck.
The young woman has had a front row seat to watch the closest thing she ever had to a grandfather and teacher get killed. His anger is uncontainable and is manifested through its ancient power, a cry of magical pain that almost kills everyone present at the same time. The Wild Hunt flees in terror. The rest of us barely saved our lives…
When everything passes and I manage to compose myself, I find myself with one of the saddest scenes in the video game: Ciri crying at the foot of the corpse of Vesemir, my teacher. We have wonbut at the cost of paying a price that we were not prepared to assume.
We cremate Vesemir according to the customs of the warlocks. “We all knew what we were in for“, I say to a Ciri who blames herself. “I will not keep running away“says the girl furiously. the allies say goodbye during the ceremony and leave for their destinations. I owe a debt to all of them. Lambert and Ezken are devastated and plan to get lost. Kaer Morhen is meaningless without Vesemir.
Avalla’ch, Yennefer, and Triss plan their next move. Ciri is furious and leaves shouting. Better give the girl space. The days go by and it seems worse and worse: She gets frustrated with the elf’s teachings, she doesn’t want to learn and her desire for revenge eats her away.
I decide to talk to her. I propose to you an old training for healing broken hearts that I learned from the Skellige druids. Ciri jokes, but before the end of the training I start: I throw a bunch of snow in his face while i smile Let’s play. It’s the first time I’ve seen the girl laugh. Finally, she hugs me, thanks for the time and returns to her teacher. Laughter is a very effective medicine for broken hearts.
