Fans of the Street Fighter fighting game series can now get their own impression of the latest offspring, because the makers have released a playable demo. They also took a look into the future and presented a feature that was almost revolutionary for the series.
A detailed gameplay showcase was also recently broadcast for Street Fighter 6 – and it not only contained game scenes but also plenty of information worth mentioning. Above all, a free demo of the game was published directly in the context of the broadcast. You can now download this on the platforms PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and get your own impression of the new beat’em up. PC and Xbox gamers will have to wait a little longer, because the demo will not appear here until April 26th – so in the coming week.
Otherwise, a new feature that was almost revolutionary for the long-standing series was confirmed. There will be a character creator, which means you can create your own protagonists in addition to the usual roster of fighters. You can customize them with your own avatars and then compete against other created characters both online and offline. These avatars can use any combination of moves.
There is also an innovation worth mentioning in terms of audio, because the sound design should become more accessible. This manifested itself in hearing different tones depending on how far you are from your opponents, what moves are being used, and how much energy your character has left.
The various game modes (arcade, team matches, extreme battle rulers, custom rooms, ranked) and the supported cross-play were shown during the presentation. The Year 1 Character Pass was also announced, which will bring you a total of four additional characters on a quarterly basis: Rashid (Summer 2023), AKI (Fall 2023), Ed (Winter 2023/2024) and Akuma (Spring 2024).
