After Wolcen was considered a possible Diablo competitor for a while, the catastrophic release with major technical problems dashed these hopes. In the test, we then had to devalue the game because of its poor technical condition:
Wolcen in the test:
So much potential, such a disappointment
Lately only played on Steam maximum 500 players at the same time the action RPG. Nevertheless, there is now a pretty extensive update, which primarily targets the endgame and thus attracts more players again. We summarize the most important innovations for you.
More endgame content
New operations: The highlight of Patch 1.1.5.0, also called Aegis of Stormfall, are the four new endgame activities that can be started at the newly introduced war table.
- In Cursor you will accompany an ally to different areas where they will fight back the darkness while you have to defend them.
- rush lets you compete in an arena against waves of enemies that are getting stronger and you have to wipe them all out.
- In the Bounty hunting on the other hand, you put on a single, particularly strong boss.
- goal of Sabotage After all, it’s stealing a Defense Stone. You must survive his defenses and fight against champions summoned by him.
war table: The existing endgame content, namely expeditions, scaled mandates and Wrath of Sarisel will also be selected at the war table in the future. There are always only three random operation types to choose from, the completion of an activity updates this selection.
Skull System: Also newly added is a skull system that replaces the expedition system. Completing Operations now awards Skulls, the number of which depends on the length and difficulty of the activity. Once you’ve collected enough skulls, you level up and unlock new levels of difficulty. Advances from the old system are carried over.
More new content
New enemies: You can now encounter two new enemy types. Mystagogues are former priests and apparently summon several servants who attack you. Architects, former guardians of primeval structures, seem to specialize in ranged combat and also deal area damage.
New armor: Granted only to the Republic’s finest soldiers, Veteran Armor of the Republic knows how to impress.
New area: The canyon is now available as a secondary area, here are some pictures:
All other changes can be found in the Europe language Patch notes on page 2.
Will the patch bring players back?
As mentioned at the beginning, Wolcen has been able to attract few regular players lately. After the release of the update, however, the number of players increased a bit. However, the reactions to the announcement of the patch on Steam are rather restrained. There is little sign of enthusiasm here, even if some players are quite benevolent about the update.
What do you think of the new update? Will you give Wolcen another chance, or have technical problems or the abrupt end of the story already put you off too much?
