When Hollywood Shrinks
If we were to ask you what the best action movie of 2022 was, how would you answer? Everything, everywhere, all at once ? Top Gun Maverick ? The Batman
RRR (Yes, that’s the name of the film, and it has nothing to do with Alain Chabat’s) hit theaters on March 25 this year. It is headed by SS Rajamouli and comes straight from India. If you know a little bit about international cinema, you probably know that this is a film that is categorized as ‘Bollywood’. The latter tend to be longer than those of the west, but also very well made and, above all, extremely spectacular to look at.
Unbridled action scenes, big dance scenes, slow motion that would make Zack Snyder pale, everything is done in such a way that the viewer takes full advantage of it and comes out of the session imbued with what they just saw. And while it can happen that some films are more ridiculous than impressive, others manage to strike the balance. This is the case with RRRthat we recommend if you like this type of movies.

When you see the trailer for the film above, you might want to laugh a dozen times. Within three minutes you can see a man yell in a tiger’s face, a soldier crash a car, pull a gun out of the air and follow it, throw a motorcycle through the air, get kicked and hand caught, and many more other scenes as improbable as they defy all the laws of physics.
Rest assured, none of this is to be taken seriously. We’ve already told you, Bollywood films have a tradition of offering viewers a great spectacle, even if the latter doesn’t make any logical sense. On the other hand, the movie and its scenario aren’t always as ridiculous as the trailer might suggest. In fact, the feature film has a particularly well thought-out subtext and other qualities that should not be underestimated. All of this earned it a very impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and the general public alike.
Therefore, despite the first impression you may have when watching the trailer, we strongly encourage you to watch it and form your own opinion. Besides having a great time, you might discover some sensitivity to Bollywood movies and try to broaden your cinematic horizons.
