Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a critical and commercial failure, and this inevitably had a direct impact on Warner, who suffered huge losses as a result.
The release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League proved costly for Warner Bros., resulting in an estimated $200 million in lost revenue. This information was disclosed in the company’s first quarter financial report, which described it as disappointing compared to initial expectations. It’s still pretty unsettling when you think about it.
“Suicide Squad” was a financial hole
The game, which was delayed several times before its release, failed to appeal to critics or gamers. In fact, during its early access it had to be removed from stores due to a serious bug that automatically ended the game, thus affecting the intended user experience. This situation required a quick response from Warner Bros. trying to limit the damage to its brand image and financial situation.
Warner Bros. CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels explained during a call with investors that Suicide Squad’s poor performance impacted not only sales but also the company’s EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of 200 million Dollar. This significant decline came despite the previous success of Hogwarts Legacy, which posted excellent numbers in the same quarter last year. So it’s hard to imagine the company not going all-in on Harry Potter and moving a little further away from DC.
On Metacritic, a critical and public review site, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League received an average score of 60 out of 100, indicating mixed reviews. Here on iGamesNews we gave it a grade of 6. Satisfactory, nothing more and that’s a shame.
