Summer Game Fest 2023 was once again the scene of great announcements from various and diverse studios. We bring you the great summary of all the important announcements from the conference.

Summer Game Fest 2023 has officially started. Geoff Keighley and around forty developers and publishers came to host the show for two hours and to show as many games. The conference was particularly eagerly awaited as previous editions contained strong announcements and surprises. Did it live up to expectations? Here’s a big recap of the conference with all the games featured.

FF7 Rebirth, Prince of Persia, the big surprises of the conference

The big surprise at the end wasn’t one. Square Enix’s teaser wasn’t very subtle and all hopes were pinned on this Summer Game Fest 2023. It didn’t fail! FF7 Rebirth ended a half-hearted conference with a trailer that’s giving fans of the license goosebumps. Some narrative sections have been confirmed, gameplay sequences have been shown, the world (open or not) has been revealed. The second installment in the trilogy should surprise veterans who know the original inside and out with new scenarios. The date is set for early 2024, with Square Enix rumored to be targeting January.

On this subject, the pre-registrations for FF7 Ever Crisis will be launched. As a reminder, the game will serve as an anthology, tracing the entire story of the saga and spin-offs while adding chapters about Sephiroth’s childhood. This Summer Game Fest 2023 still has some real surprises in store for us that we didn’t expect. Starting with the 2.5D game inspired by Metroidvania: Prince of Persia The Lost Crown. And it’s not the only anthological license that appears in a new light. After a cool Sonic Frontiers, SEGA wants to try to win back the hearts of the fans with a 2.5D game with the most beautiful impact that already promises to be a homage to the old Megadrive episodes: Sonic Superstars.

The strong announcements of Summer Games Fest 2023

The conference was also marked by strong announcements. Mortal Kombat 1 brought the series a gameplay sequence that was as bloody as it was insane. As icing on the cake, Jean Claude Van Damme will double as Johnny Cage in this reboot. Alan Wake 2 offers a little gameplay, but not too much. This is one of the minor disappointments for fans of the license who remain unhappy. Note the appearance of some awaited titles like the competitor of Diablo 4, Path of Exile 2, Baldur’s Gate 3 or Sandland, the game of the creator of Dragon Ball. But the unexpected announcement probably comes from Insomniac Games. The developers used the aura of the Summer Game Fest 2023 conference to announce the release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and its Collector’s Edition.

Following the unfortunate leaks, Like a Dragon Gaiden The Man Who Erased His Name has become official to mark the occasion. The more modest productions also followed one another. Among them Banishers Ghosts of New Eden, the new game from Don’t Nod and Focus Home, John Carpenter starting with the game Toxic Commando, Immortals of Aveum, Call of Duty Magic and especially Lies of P, the Bloodborne-like who impresses continues with each of his performances. Quantic Dream presented two of his edited titles: Under the Waves and Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior, a hack’n’slash with a tactical dimension.

A little bit of Hollywood at the conference

With video game adaptations being popular on the small and big screens, there was a bit of Hollywood at this Summer Game Fest 2023. Starting with Nicolas Cage coming to confirm his arrival in Dead By Daylight. Season 3 of The Witcher, the last with Henry Cavill, unveiled its trailer as promised, which did not fail to have a small impact on fans. The surprise comes mainly from PlayStation, which has released a trailer of Twisted Metal, the series of which will be released on the Peacock platform in July.
