The E3 2023 is cancelled, instead there is the Summer Game Fest. Sony already did a good job with the PlayStation Direct presentation, now the next showcases are coming up. Among other things, Microsoft and Bethesda want to present their new titles at the event. It is not yet known what exactly will be seen. But that doesn’t stop the Redmond group from discreetly teasing Sony.
Taunts between competitors in the video game sector are not uncommon and sometimes even caused historic advertising campaigns. For example, we remember Sega’s legendary “Genesis does what Nintendon’t” ads. It will probably not be as wild as part of the Summer Game Fest between Sony and Microsoft, but there is always a lot of tension.

Microsoft will broadcast the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on June 11, 2023 at 7:00 p.m., followed by new information about the upcoming space role-playing game at Starfield Direct. Sony, on the other hand, decided not to be in close proximity to Geoff Keighley’s event and held the PlayStation Showcase two weeks ago. For the most part, however, this was only received cautiously, and Microsoft now senses an opportunity to create atmosphere.
At least that’s what a little dig from Aaron Greenberg, Vice President of Xbox Games Marketing, now suggests. A fan tweeted the request to only show CGI trailers for new announcements, but well-known titles should be considered with real game scenes.
Greenberg responds by stating, “None of our first-party games that we feature on our show are shown in a pure CGI trailer. There is either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or in-game footage with some Cutscenes. Each of our trailers will be labeled in a way that hopefully is clear for our fans.”
There is of course a little taunt against Sony here, because the PlayStation Showcase once again featured a ton of CGI footage. However, some titles also had real gameplay, such as in the case of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
