After the rumor mill has revolved around the technical data such as performance and power consumption with a view to the RTX 4000, perhaps the first image of the upcoming Geforce RTX 4080 has now appeared on Twitter. We take a closer look at what to see on it.
However, one should not have false hopes with regard to what the appearance of the photo could mean for an early release of the RTX 4080. We go into that in the articles section When can we expect the RTX 4080?

The graphics card is housed in a clear plastic case, making it a bit difficult to see details. The image is from the leaker’s Twitter account KittyYYukowho previously made a name for himself in the scene under the name KittyCorgi.

Two things are particularly striking: On the one hand the new lettering, which interestingly goes well with the recently adapted font on the Nvidia-Homepage fits. On the other hand, the cooling construction used, which should look very familiar to you.

Nvidia stays the same, but not quite
If the picture of the RTX 4080 is real, Nvidia would rely on a very similar cooling construction as with the RTX 3000 series, which is quite plausible. However, the RTX 4080 will probably use the more lavish version of the RTX 3090 and not the model of the direct predecessor RTX 3080.
This can be recognized by the silver lines in the middle. While they don’t cross in a straight line on the Founders Edition of the RTX 3080 as shown in the image below, this is the case on the RTX 3090 – just like in the supposed image of the RTX 4080:

The RTX 3090 is larger than the RTX 3080 and uses a three-slot instead of a two-slot design. It is conceivable that Nvidia decided to do this because of the higher waste heat generated, even if leaks recently no longer assumed such an extremely high TDP as at the beginning of the year. It should also be taken into account that the official information on the power consumption of the graphics card hardly differs between the RTX 3080 (320 watts with 10 GB, 350 watts with 12 GB) and the RTX 3090 (350 watts) and still the clearly larger cooler in the RTX 3090 is used.
As always in such cases, however, it is ultimately just speculation. The picture could be fake, it is also conceivable that it only shows a possible variant of the RTX 4080 and not the final product.
When can we expect the RTX 4080?
There are no official statements about this yet. Most recently, it was assumed that only the RTX 4090 (Ti) would appear this year and that the other models, including the RTX 4080, would not follow until 2023.
A possible image of the RTX 4080 does not change the situation, since the background to the rather hesitant release by Nvidia is said to be too high stocks of RTX 3000 models, which first have to be sold off as far as possible.
Or to put it another way: If these reports are correct, Nvidia could bring the RTX 4080 to the market in a timely manner. However, you may not (yet) be interested in it because too many new RTX 4000 models would reduce interest in buying the current RTX 3000 generation too much.
