Swords of Legends Online One of the Biggest Chinese MMOs Heads West This Year
A hit MMO known in China as Gu Jian Qi Tan Online is coming West later this year under the name Swords of Legends Online. Described as a “fully remastered and improved” version of the game, which will explore the timeless war between the sides of light and darkness.
Swords of Legends Online will offer players six classes, Reaper, Summoner, Bard, Spellsword, Berserker and Spearmaster. There are also two specialisations per class as the game progresses, meaning further powerful skills and abilities to unlock. Players will experience the action in both solo quests and multiplayer dungeons. There are also 20-player raids and PvP modes, all following the theme of Chinese legends and mythology. The MMO also has player housing, so when you’re not hitting the action, you can chill at your very own floating island with plenty of customisation.
Vice president of the co-developer Wangyuan Shengtang expressed that the game has had “overwhelmingly positive reception” in the China region according to a recent article by PC Gamer. They also are happy to have “finally found a partner who specializes in bringing MMORPGs to Western audiences, and we are eager to welcome those audiences into the world of Swords of Legends Online.”
The developer is partnering with Gameforge which publishes MMOs including the likes of Tera, Metin 2 and Aion. Chief product officer Tomislav Perkovic of Gameforge was captivated by Swords of Legends Online “dazzling and unique visuals” as well as “compelling gameplay,” knowing that was a right fit for players in other regions. The MMO will be releasing in English, French and Europe.
The game comes with what y0u’d expect from an MMO, open world exploration, a range of classes and the usual multiplayer content. But hopefully this fantasy world has plenty to keep players coming back to, and offers a unique engaging experience which can compete with the likes of its western counterparts such as Elder Scrolls Online or even the overly popular Japanese MMO Final Fantasy XIV.
The game is currently available for pre-purchase on Steam, Gameforge client, and Epic Games Store. The standard edition is available for $39.99 for the standard edition, $39.99 for deluxe edition which bundles together weapon skins and costumes, and $59.99 for the collector’s editions which include deluxe content and further cosmetics. Pre-ordering will gain players a special bonus including exclusive cosmetics in-game items and access to closed beta trials. Pre-ordering also means getting access to character name reservations and character creation before SOLOs launches.
