Tarisland’s developers told iGamesNews that the game is sticking with “an original MMORPG with a fresh IP” after numerous comparisons to World of Warcraft earlier this year.
The trailer for Tarisland was released in January, just three days after Blizzard’s partnership with NetEase ended. The resulting fallout forced World of Warcraft to exit China, and Tencent’s own fantasy MMORPG quickly launched globally. However, Tarisland producer Yang Min said in an interview with iGamesNews, “We had already planned to release the trailer.”
“Tarisland is an original MMORPG with a fresh IP,” wrote producer Yangmin. “Whether it is narrative content, game experience or commercial design, we are committed to providing a new game experience. The game is still in the early stages, and there may be major adjustments before the final version is released. We hope you will wait patiently, because our goal It’s about providing our players with more exciting and original content.”
Talisland has been the subject of numerous plagiarism allegations since Blizzard’s own MMORPG fan reveal – many have pointed to certain features in the trailer, including in-game areas, characters, a dragon that looks an awful lot like Deathwing, And flying airships that all look nothing alike. to World of Warcraft. Even former World of Warcraft developer Chris Metzen was involved, snarky comment on twitter Game similarities.
This isn’t the first time a Chinese developer has been accused of taking a lot of inspiration from other games. Genshin Impact is perhaps the most notorious of the bunch, releasing after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and utilizing several game features from Nintendo’s creation. Then there’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, a game that’s been the focus of a lawsuit between Riot Games because of its similarities to MOBAs.
The game has only recently entered closed beta in the West, and seems to be popular among early adopters. Tarisland is certainly early in development, but its core gameplay seems like a very interesting tag-targeted MMO. It will feature five- and ten-player dungeons, 10v10 and 3v3 PvP, open-world bosses, and an in-game trading ecosystem designed to “give the free trade economy back to players.”
The launch of Tarisland comes at an interesting time for the MMORPG genre, with fans who were once loyal and dead set on their game of choice now wanting to at least give any MMO that’s been out recently a try. It’s likely to find a home in the hearts of Western fans, even if it does like A little bit It’s like they’ve been addicted to hundreds of hours of gaming. Ultimately, if there’s one thing Genshin Impact has taught us, it’s that players don’t really care if duplication happens, as long as the game is good.
If you’d like to try the game out for yourself, we plan to have playtests and betas in the future, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the official Tarisland site.
