It’s great that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom allows you to visit any location in Hyrule just by setting your mind to it, but that does not translate into being able to complete all the possible objectives at that point. My adventure towards Green It was to visit a place where I have a fondness for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, although I didn’t expect it to backfire on me.
Hello and goodbye, Kakariko
Once I had overcome the trauma of the Dawn Plateau along with the dark underground, I set off in the direction of the Twin Peaks. My memory still retained the location of Kakariko and I knew that crossing the gap between both peaks would take me to the post that rests at its feet. Turn left, follow the path and you would see the inhabitants begin to appear from their houses. However, the syndrome so particular to this franchise invaded me along the way.
Without eating or drinking it, I saw myself climbing and ascending the Twin Peaks, because there is an irresistible magnetism in the human being that requires him to reach any place that is above him. Yes, there is absolutely nothing up there, but something inside me urged me to do it; At least I glimpsed a watchtower to unlock and thus clear a good chunk of the map.
Okay, Kakariko has changed because of the so-called ring ruins that are spread across the cliffs that surround this enclave between mountains. Its origin dates back to the Zonnan, there are five in total and I can only explore four because of a lucky watcher who thinks he’s smarter than me. No matter whether I’m talking to the handsome and vigorous Taurus or the handsome but shy Paya, I simply can’t get past the cordoned off area.
I read and reread the dialogues in which I am told that without Princess Zelda’s order I will not be able to pass, so the doubt arises: can I not advance right now because I must progress in the story or am I simply not realizing the method that I have to carry out? While I ponder the question I find the innkeeper, a guy with less love for his business than I love sucking a lemon. A spoil of sheikah who must be dragged like a drunk to his establishment.
I have no idea what the flower crown that can be bought for five rupees is for, but I lose 10 of them by using it against the guard who prevents me from passing. After making a fool of myself with the poppies and petunias, I decide to leave Kakariko and get lost in the immensity of Hyrule. Especially when discovering that not even the fairy is in the adjacent forest, since now there is a sinkhole with three pairs of noses.
A dull pond
What better place to discover than the Lanayru Swamp. The best and only answer is anyone, but it is what is closest to my hand and at some point I had to clean up all the tasks that can be done there. You already know that charming landscape, but I’ll refresh it for you: several hectares of absolute nothingness, beyond ankle-deep water. The bokoblin, lizalfos and golems roam freely to annoy the staff, although all this allows me to continue permeating the mechanics of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
I haven’t progressed through practically everything there is to do in the game, so places like Lanayru are perfect to experiment with. Weapon combinations begin to be more logical, I take advantage of being in a wet environment to take advantage of their full potential and I increase my skill in hand-to-hand combat. A good dodge always helps to crack skulls in slow motion, so I apply the story whenever I can.
And although Lanayru is full of generic camps that serve no purpose other than releasing stress and replenishing resources, I had a good time. The occasional chest to discover, wells among the ruins of ancient settlements… there is always some small task to complete and the Using Link’s skills is sure to be fun. Underground, through the sky or through the water gates that lead to Zora land, it seems impossible to get bored. The best part came when I came across a huge hole at the base of the mountain with a river running through it.
Impossible to swim, we had to assemble the most pitiful boat that has ever sailed through any water. With two sad planks and two turbines, I was able to surf without problems a space that, in Breath of the Wild, it would have been impossible to overcome. There is enormous satisfaction in anecdotes like these happening, like a little child who plays with a couple of sticks and lives for a while the greatest adventure of his life. Even having a centaleon give me the beating of my life was funny, I have to admit.
Where did I end up? Well, right next to the Picos Gemelos post, my first original stop and which, now, I have been able to visit. Since Kakariko seems like an impossible mission for now, I think Hatelia can be a very beautiful city to visit. Especially now that it has become the fashion capital of Hyrule.
