Starfield is already #1 on the Steam wish list for gamers (after SteamDB, at the time of writing this article). With the opening of pre-orders for Bethesda’s new baby, the title is already set #12 in worldwide sales on the Valve platform. Even though pre-ordering by reserving the special edition offers up to five days early access, it comes as a surprise to some that Starfield works so well, given that it’s possible to access the game through Game Pass and therefore not have to pay for the full price. Game Pass release is scheduled for release day. All you need is a $10 per month subscription to have access to it in addition to all the other games it offers (Persona, Yakuza, etc.). Nevertheless, there are still good sales figures.

Old habits and possessions
Game Pass’ interference in the sale of a game is a real question mark for many. A question that small developers have categorically dismissed on many occasions. While Steam’s Best Sellers tab is based on revenue generated by the title rather than units sold, it still shows that there is an audience willing to pay full price for Bethesda’s future game rather than the game itself to buy a pass. Perhaps because many gamers are not yet accustomed to the subscription formula to have access to a catalog of games, preferring to “own” their title in a dematerialized way.
Starfield will be available on September 6, 2023 for PC, Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One and will be available in Game Pass on launch day. The game was presented at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase with 45 minutes of gameplayand minimum and recommended PC requirements are already available.
