How much do developers make by offering their games on PS Plus? The information was revealed for one of the titles offered this year and compared to Xbox Game Pass.
Every month, Sony treats its subscribers to three free PS Plus games. Choices that are not always unanimous, but which allow developers to introduce their titles to millions of players. The Japanese company doesn’t hesitate to get its hands on the wallet, but how much does adding a game bring to the PS+? We have the answer.
Sony is getting its hands on the wallet for the PS Plus
While Xbox Game Pass has established itself as one of the best deals out there, Sony has finally countered and changed its PS Plus. The service is divided into three different formulas, while still offering monthly “free games” for all of its subscribers. This allowed for service games like Fall Guys to be highlighted at its launch, or to introduce nuggets like A Plague Tale Innocence to as many players as possible. And to give these lovely gifts, Sony is willing to pay a hell of a lot.
Such is the case, for example, of ARK: Survival Evolved, which was offered on PS Plus in March 2022. The Securities And Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that Sony has spent $3.5 million to offer the survival game to its subscribers. For its part, Microsoft paid a whopping $2.5 million to add the same title to Xbox Game Pass in the first half of the year. Add to that the approximately $2.3 million spent to have ARK 2 in service at launch. For comparison, Cooking Simulator joined Xbox Game Pass in August 2022 for around $600,000. Of course, the price allocated to the developers depends on the scope and popularity of the game, but the new ones give you a new perspective on the cost of the titles offered to you.
