We got the opportunity to interview some Diablo developers. Our editor Fabiano used this opportunity to follow up on one or the other thing.
Among other things, he asked what the basements in Diablo 4 are all about. Because these were rather negative for us at the preview in December.
You can find out more points of criticism, but also a lot of highlights about Diablo 4 in this video:

Diablo 4 Preview Video: Damn, Diablo 4 is so much fun!
This role is played by the basements in Diablo 4
What are the basements and why do we criticize them? – In our preview of Diablo 4, we described the basements as follows:
There is a greater number of puny basements. Poor is the right word here, because the basements always consist of a single room with a single elite monster and accompaniment. This is done in less than a minute and yields negligible loot – I quickly ignore the cellars.
Will the cellars be improved or changed? – The developers say that some of the basements will be part of quests. So they will not be changed. Most other basements will have randomly generated content and events.
However, these will probably not all be ready for the start of the beta on March 17th. The work on new cellars will not be completed before the release. Since this is a game-as-a-service, the basements will be expanded with more types and variants after the beta and the release.
We also want to listen to user feedback and continue working on the elements and variants that the community appreciates the most. At the same time, however, problems and criticisms of the existing cellars are to be resolved if they arise.
In this video you can find out why we are looking forward to Diablo 4 and other titles in 2023 despite our criticism:

Anticipation 2023: Fabiano wants to thrash dark demons in Diablo 4.
Our assessment: At the start of the beta and also at the release, the cellars seem to offer little variety and highlights. This is supposed to change after the release, but one must not forget that this is only a small part of the game.
Big highlights are not to be expected. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what role the cellars will play in the future of Diablo 4.
Want to learn more about Blizzard’s next big title? Then take a look at our preview. Fabiano was able to play Diablo 4 for over a week and tells you about his experiences:
What do you think of the cellars? Do you think this is an interesting addition, or do you think it’s just a way to extend the playing time of Diablo 4? What would you like from the cellars? Do you have any other wishes for the beta or the release? Write it in the comments!
