As of February 5, 2024, the Steam Next Fest is back and in full swing! At the event you can on Valve’s sales platform until February 12th at 7:00 p.m Try out tons of free demos for games that have not yet been released. Over 1,600 titles are waiting for you to test.
We have listed for you which games particularly stood out on the first day of the Steam Next Fest.
What the current status of the most played demos looks like or whether new highlights are on the horizon is regularly updated by Steam and communicated publicly with you. Here you can follow what is happening.
1st place: Dungeonborne

Dungeonborne: In the trailer for the fantasy Tarkov, the Unreal Engine 5 flexes its muscles
At the top is currently the dark action role-playing game Dungeonborne, whose extraction principle is reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov – only with knights and magicians.
Once you have chosen your class, you enter a dungeon and search it for valuables. Meanwhile, you face different monsters and other players using a complex combat system. You can then either exchange the loot you find for money in an in-game auction house or you can use the loot for your own advantage in the next dungeon. 2nd place: Stormgate
The new real-time strategy game is being developed by Blizzard veterans and is considered a spiritual successor to Warcraft 3. The setting of Stormgate fuses fantasy with sci-fi elements and is already well received by RTS fans – they have exceeded the goal of the Kickstarter campaign within a few minutes.

Platz 3: Backpack Battles
A special fantasy inventory manager that might be of interest to anyone who loves collecting. Using your items, you build a character and equip yourself for auto-battles. YouTuber HandOfBlood is also enthusiastic about Backpack Battles and says that it makes him “extremely addictive”. Watch his video here:

The deck builder Balatro impresses players with the combination of poker and roguelike elements in his demo during the Steam Next Fest.

Platz 5: Millennia

Millennia: 5 minutes of gameplay from the game that isn’t Civilization but looks like it
At first glance, the turn-based strategy game is visually reminiscent of Civilization and relies on a 4X gameplay principle. You attempt to keep your nation stable over ten eras by prospering the economy, making scientific breakthroughs, and overcoming times of crisis.

Platz 6: The 4 Sins
Even though horror isn’t necessarily one of the most popular genres, The 4 Sins is currently in the top 10 most played demos. In the multiplayer escape room, you investigate a woman’s suicide by solving puzzles together in a dark Chinese city to uncover the truth.

Platz 7: Pacific Drive

Pacific Drive – Preview video for the new car survival game
In the unusual car survival game you fight for your survival in an exclusion zone in an alternative timeline of the 1990s. Your car is your best friend because it offers you protection and serves as a pack mule for looted resources. You can get a deeper insight in the game test by our colleague Christian Schwarz.

Platz 8: Homeworld 3
The third part of the popular science fiction series is in the starting blocks and is already exciting players with its demo. In the space strategy game, like in its predecessors, you will once again wage spectacular battles with massive battleships and space fighters. According to the developer, the campaign also follows on from the story of the previous parts. There will also be a co-op mode, which our editors Reiner Hauser and Michael Graf have already been able to play.

Platz 9: Lightyear Frontier
In the new farm simulation, you build your own farm à la Stardew Valley and continue to expand it. At first it sounds very traditional like a farm sim, but it has a special twist: you are on an alien planet and are sitting in a powerful mech suit.
