2023 will be a year to remember for the such masterful video game adaptations that have been carried out, as has been the case with the live action series The Last of Us produced by HBO and also the recently released animated film Super Mario Bros., by Illumination and Universal Pictures.
These couple of examples have made us trust that with good ideas and a good team behind it, outstanding results can be achieved. In fact, the same thing also happened last year with the successful series Arcane, from the League of Legends universe, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, based on Cyberpunk 2077.
That’s why we wanted fantasize about a few video games that we would like to follow the same example and they came to have their own series or movie, because they have also earned their own adaptations. However, before anything else, we must make some notes about which ones have been left out of the list:
Starting from this base, these 13 sagas are the ones that deserve to make the leap to the small and big screen. And of course you are more than welcome to leave us with your suggestions in the comments about what other projects you would like to see.
Metroid
We start with one of the sagas that most deserves to hit theaters with an animated movie or a live action one, because it would be amazing to see Samus
Kingdom Hearts
With Disney Plus more than established, it is strange that the streaming platform has not yet announced a Kingdom Hearts animated series. The Square Enix saga has so many video games and its plot is so extensive that it is enough to mount several seasons that everyone would love equally for the simple fact of visiting so many worlds of the disney universe with their respective characters.
The Last Guardian
Any of the works developed by Team ICO are so outstanding that all of them would fit on this list, but if we stick with one it would be The Last Guardian for the masterful story that tells usespecially because of the friendship between the couple formed by a child and Trico, a gigantic creature that could be created by computer if we were facing a live action movie.
Broken Sword
When it comes to talking about graphic adventures, it’s normal to remember Maniac Mansion or Monkey Island, but we mustn’t forget either Broken Sword, another of the best that have ever existed, so in this case it would be nice to see an animated series to bet on a visual touch like that of the games themselves and continue the mystery-filled journeys of George Stobbart and Nicole Collard throughout the whole world.
Bloodborne
There are many soulslike videogames with worlds likely to have their own movie, but for its setting, characters, creatures and others, one of those who would like to have their own live action movie would be Bloodborne. Who knows, maybe we will see a recreation of the world of Yharnam in this format before the eternally awaited remastering or remake of FromSoftware’s work.
The Elder Scrolls
With examples like The Witcher or The Rings of Powerit has become clear that they can be done live action series based on fantasy worlds. So why not grab one of the best out there like The Elder Scrolls? With the history of the MMORPG alone, it is enough for the series to last a good handful of seasons.
Ori
Tanto Ori and the Blind Forest como Ori and the Will of the Wisps son de the most precious games that we have seen in recent years and that enter through the eyes due to its artistic section, so it would suit them like a glove to have their own animated film. Moon Studios is already taking time to find a production company for it.
Red Dead Redemption
In recent days actor Jack Black has expressed his desire to see a Red Dead Redemption movie, but let’s face it, Rockstar Games Wild West It’s so amazing that it would be even better to see it on a television series with several seasons, one for each of its games.
Psychonauts
Another title that perfectly deserves its own animated movie is Psychonauts. After three splendid works developed by Double Fine, it would be nice to see Raz Razputin and his psychic abilities
Yakuza
If Yakuza were to have an adaptation, a live action series would do very well due to the number of titles that make up this video game saga. Even so, it wouldn’t hurt to opt for a format like John Wickcon you fight so beasts because of the violence it presentswhich would leave us with a movie for each of the installments starring Kazuma Kiryu.
Overwatch
The first time we saw Overwatch we all thought it looked like we were before a Pixar film for its animation and character design, so it’s strange that Blizzard hasn’t contacted that company to bring an animated film to life. In any case, the creators of Warcraft and StarCraft are capable enough to make it on their own, as they have already shown with some of their impressive short films.
Half-Life
too much to ask Half-Life 3 to Valve, but a live action series from this science fiction universe would not be bad at all. Gordon Freeman’s adventure could opt for an adaptation to the small screen of which it is one of the best known sagas of all time. In addition, it would be a good way to calm the waters a bit, or to increase the desire, to get to see a new Half-Life.
Pong
The last game on the list is Pong, one of the most classic and historical of the video game industry. Yes, it may seem absurd to think that a movie could be made based on two sticks that move and hit a ball that goes from one side of the screen to the other, but here we have the recently released a Tetris feature filmso everything is possible.
