EA Sports FC 25 gets with the new Gameplay Refresh Update the biggest gameplay overhaul in series history to date, fitting for the middle of the season.

Based on community feedback, EA Sports is making many major adjustments to core mechanics such as passing, shooting, defending and goalkeeping.

We'll show you the seven most important changes at a glance.

1. Defenders can no longer catch up to fast attackers as easily

A common criticism was that slow defenders could easily catch up with even the fastest strikers. This imbalance is now being corrected. Slower defenders will have a much harder time stopping fast dribblers in the future.

2. Smarter offensive play thanks to improved AI running routes

The AI teammates in the attack now act more intelligently: They keep their runs better at the offside line, position themselves more sensibly and return from offside more quickly.

Players with offensive roles, such as inside forwards, now move forward with more precision and better recognize when to sprint into open space or occupy a position.

3. Successful tackles are better rewarded

Frustrating situations in which the opponent immediately wins the ball again after a successful tackle are a thing of the past. Defenders with the Anticipate PlayStyle now also pass the ball more specifically to teammates, and ball control has generally been improved after successful duels.

4. Goalkeepers react better to shots at the near corner

Goalkeepers were often in a bad position, especially when shooting at the near corner. With the update they now position themselves closer to the near post and react more realistically to shots from acute angles.

5. Faster and more precise passing

The passing game is becoming more fluid overall: Normal flat passes are now faster, short passes to free players are more precise and semi-automatic through passes are significantly more effective. At the same time, passes that were too strong, such as the volley-lob through ball, were weakened.

6. More effective finishes in the penalty area

Shots from the penalty area, especially regulation and finesse shots, are now more powerful and accurate. In addition, players without a finesse playstyle benefit more from their shooting values, which means more players become dangerous in front of the goal.

7. More personal responsibility in defense

In competitive modes like Ultimate Team, the AI intervenes less on the defensive: Defenders no longer cover dribblers as closely and are less likely to automatically block shot lanes. You now have to defend yourself more actively. At the same time, behavior on counterattacks from corners has been improved, and full-backs return to their position more quickly.

With the new Gameplay Refresh Update, EA Sports FC 25 brings numerous adjustments that are intended to noticeably improve the gameplay. Whether these changes actually have a positive effect on the course remains to be seen – the update is available now. What do you think of the innovations? Let us know in the comments section!
