News culture The best science fiction film of 2024 is still in cinemas and is already available on VOD – although not in France
It’s one of the biggest surprises in recent memory: The Wild Robot, a brand new animated film from Dreamworks, is obviously a small masterpiece that’s getting a lot of attention. While it’s already available on VOD across the Atlantic, it’s still available to see in theaters.
A new great classic of animated cinema?
“The Iron Giant”, “Wall-E”, “The New Heroes”… robots and cartoons have often been popular and this list of great classics can now be added The Wild Robot (or Le Robot Sauvage in Molière’s language) signed by the creators of the very popular Dragons films at the legendary Dreamworks studio.
The Wild Robot tells the story about a robot (unsurprisingly) named ROZZUM 7134, simply called Roz, who is stranded on a deserted island and must learn to survive by communicating with nature and its animals. With very pretty messages, plans to die for and extremely sophisticated art direction, Le Robot Sauvage is a real gem that has won over almost everyone.
On Rotten Tomatoes, for example, the rating from both critics and internet users is 98%. ; On Metacritic it has a nice 85% with the valuable “Must-See” label. The feature film also impresses on Allociné with an average of 3.8 out of 5 points from the press and 4.5 from viewers.
Also a financial success
Le Robot Sauvage, which hit theaters here on October 9, is a big hit in theaters for now. In the United States, it nearly took the lead at the box office in its fourth weekend of release, stealing the crown from Terrify 3 as it grossed just $1,000, trailing $116,000 in earnings. Note that the film has (at the moment) grossed a total of $152 million at the worldwide box office, including $87.79 million in the US, on a budget of $78 million!
Featuring the voices of Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal and Kit Connor, the film steps up a gear by being available on VOD… but only in North America, The media timeline is very different from ours. Note that a physical version will also be offered on December 3rd. For our part, if you don’t have a VPN or choose to import, you’ll have to wait a little longer to enjoy this great story… unless you pay your ticket directly at the cinema!
