Daveed Diggs has been added to the cast of The Boys’ fifth and final season, though his role has not yet been revealed.
The Boys season 5 is generally a bit of a mystery right now, given how terrible season 4 was, but there was at least one small update yesterday with some casting news. [season 5] “Boys, let’s all welcome Daveed Diggs to the Boys family, okay? He’s going to have a role on the show. That’s all you know for now.” Aside from the incredible reveal in the penultimate sentence, you can’t really find any information about what role he’ll be playing in the upcoming season, but with major roles in shows including Hamilton and the TV series Snowpiercer, there’s every reason to be confident Diggs will be on board – as long as you ignore the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Obviously, any news about The Boys season 5 will be welcomed by fans of the show, but unfortunately, the final season may still have to wait a while. In July, Billy Butcher himself, Karl Urban, revealed that season 5 will be airing in about 2 years, which means it won’t air until 2026, and the TV series may end up being around 10 episodes. Considering that there have been gaps of several years between almost every previous season, this is not surprising, but it certainly shows how bad the TV industry is doing right now (remember when we had 24 episodes a year?).

At the very least, The Boys spinoff The Fifth Generation is set to premiere its second season next year, with a second spinoff also in the works, and a third under consideration after the premiere of Season 4. Essentially, The Boys isn’t over (for better or worse) even if The Boys ends.
