The time of contemplation is approaching. But you don’t notice much of that in the Battlefield community, on the contrary: After the actually strong Update 3 for Battlefield 2042, the mood of the fans is boiling over – despite many improvements. Because leaked skins arouse great concern about the direction in which the stumbling multiplayer shooter could drift.
In this article we draw a picture of the mood directly from the community. In well-known forums such as Reddit and also among GameStar readers, there is a clear tenor. And that sounds anything but positive. It looks as if Battlefield is on the verge of disappointing many (other) players in the long term.
Where is the problem?
The players are currently hardly giving a good hair to Battlefield 2042: Criticisms range from the unfinished release status to decisions about the game design to the recently emerged skins. The complaints about the skins in particular overshadow the actually very extensive and quickly delivered Update 3 for BF 2042:
Battlefield 2042
Everything about the big patch 3
What kind of skins are they? Apparently, developer DICE is planning or planning to release a Santa Claus skin for specialist Boris in the pre-season. In addition, Christmas skins for tanks and helicopters appeared on the Internet.
To be very clear: the disappointed fans are currently not in the mood for such jokes. Accordingly, a huge surge of anger and malice poured out over the developers. DICE is in an absolutely unenviable position.
The developers then stated on Twitter that not all skins are intended for the pre-season. DICE also showed another skin that did not have a Christmassy finish. The developers emphasized that they currently have other priorities:
Developing for the live service requires months of lead time and allows us to have options when we hit key moments in the first year. Today we have different priorities. While we have the skins, there are currently no plans to use them all this holiday season.

Battlefield fans are going through tough times on GameStar.de. No matter which article on Battlefield 2042 you are looking at, the comment columns are literally flooded with criticism. And because our community is so great, the discussion usually remains factual and constructive. The anger about the game is clearly noticeable.
As an example, here are some of the opinions of GameStar readers:
Laxemann writes: Maybe I’m completely wrong and stand there alone, but for me, Battlefield has always essentially defined the top-balanced gameplay with an “anonymous soldier” feeling. It all sounds like you want to make a COD 2.0 out of it, with a “totally cool” story and even more cringes than what was already delivered with its characters in 2042. Gruesome.
Cataleya has already completely written off the game and does not believe in new content either: To be honest, they can be stolen from me. I have no hope there. Even if the game is technically okay at some point, there are still too big disruptive factors such as these operators (+ “great” colorful skins to be expected), bad maps, few modes, few weapons and, and, and …
What are the odds for Battlefield 2042? We talk about this with Fabian Siegismund in the GameStar podcast:

But there are also positive voices among GameStar readers. Some players can overlook the problems and enjoy the quick improvements in the previous updates for Battlefield 2042.
Randlocher is happy about the patch notes from Update 3: This looks very good. I am excited!
Optimism also prevails with wheat chickens: Really great progress so far! Could become the most exciting and greatest BF over time.
It would be hoped for the players if the optimists were proved right in the end. The closer roadmap for Battlefield 2042 does at least raise hope:
Future of Battlefield 2042
New map, 64-player mode and more
Criticism on all channels
As nice as that would be, GameStar is of course not the center of the world. But also in official forums, on Steam and strong in the 180,000 users Reddit-Community Battlefield 2042 is tough. We’re not exaggerating, there are hundreds of posts and thousands of comments full of anger, malice, disappointment and other rejection on Reddit alone.
User Jesticulator makes extensive use of the cynicism box:
Watching this train wreck is more fun than the actual game. I just got up thinking I should see what people think of Update 3 and I’m greeted with Bad Santa and Woody in its final form. […]
Whoever makes these decisions has so little idea of what people want from a BF game that it has now become unbearable. […]

Battlefield 2042 – release conclusion: unfinished and out with it!
Many like Battlefield 2042
But there are also players on Reddit who either already have a lot of fun with Battlefield 2042, or at least continue to hope that DICE will patch the game well in the future.
User VinniGreti remains optimistic and constructive. The improvements needed from the user’s point of view are:
- The maps need to be revised, more vertical terrain like in Bf1, more points of interest, more places for cover.
- Voice chat for squads and raising the limit to 8-player squads
- Gameplay / Movement – It feels like rubberbanding even when it isn’t. The movement has to become more fluid.
- Bring the classes back
- More guns and attachments that don’t have exactly the same stats
- Abolition of the call system for vehicles or replacement with pure transport vehicles
- Eliminated the clown show dialogues and skins to make the game darker and more realistic
- TDM and Rush in the main playlist
